YOUTH OF THE WATER is a Japanese fashion brand founded by designer Ao Ueda.
The name derives from the philosophy expressed in The Classic of Tea by Lu Yu, later
translated by Okakura Tenshin as “YOUTH OF THE WATER,” which values an equal
relationship between people, nature, and objects.
With the philosophy of “incomplete creation,” the brand embraces garments that are not
finished by the maker alone but evolve through the craftsmanship of artisans and the
interpretation of those who wear them. By leaving space, margins, for freedom and
creativity, YOUTH OF THE WATER elevates craftsmanship into the realm of art.
It is a brand that proposes new forms of dialogue and coexistence through clothing.
