Description
The Theresian Derby takes its name from the reign of Empress Maria Theresa and its form from the military footwear traditions of imperial Vienna. The original shoe was developed by Ludwig Reiter, the Viennese shoemaker founded in 1885, as a robust cap-toe derby built for durability and formal utility. RIER has worked with Ludwig Reiter to produce an exclusive version in vintage pull-up leather on a rubber outdoor sole, the only configuration in which this shoe exists. The upper is cut from vintage pull-up cowhide developed specifically for this collaboration: high-quality tanned leather that takes a strong polish, lightens at creases and fold points, then returns to depth as the leather relaxes. The surface accumulates character with wear in the same way as the Biker Boot, applied here to a fundamentally different silhouette. The open lacing cap-toe derby form is entirely clean, with no ornamental detailing beyond the construction lines. The rubber outdoor sole grounds a formally proportioned shoe in daily use without compromising its profile from the side. Made in Vienna, UK sizing
